Adriatic and Ionian region of The Adriatic and Ionian Macroregion

Developing a smart networking system for monitoring and fostering research & innovation capacity in SMEs for increasing competitiveness and sustainable growth

Following the success and the experience coming from the two current macro-regional strategies (EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region, EU Strategy for the Danube Region), the EU Commission is now drawing up an EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian region of The Adriatic and Ionian Macroregion. This is a functional area, composed of national, regional, and local bodies coming together to tackle a number of shares issues and it involves  territories of EU member states:  Italy, Slovenia, Greece and Croatia (from July 2013) and also candidate countries as Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia. The general objective of the new Strategy is to promote economic and social prosperity and growth in the region by improving its attractiveness, competitiveness and connectivity. The Strategy should also play an important role in promoting the EU integration of Western Balkans. In this sense the SMART INNO project will play an important role as it will pave the way for a fruitful collaborations and for starting together to achieving common objectives.
