SMART INNO European SME Week in Pula (Croatia)
An initiative by Juraj Dobrila University of Pula together & Istrian Development Agency (IDA) (Croatia)

SMART INNO Partners, Juraj Dobrila University of Pula together with Istrian Development Agency (IDA), promoted the European Small and Medium Entrepreneurship Week in the framework of SMART INNO project. A series of activities, including presentations, workshops, panel and a student visit to the new Center for Popularization of Science and Innovation were run between November 17th and 19th, 2015.

After the opening ceremony which was held at IDA premises on 17th November, the program continued with the presentation „Boosting the development of SMEs and innovation in the production processes“ with the participation of Croatian Agency for SMEs Innovation and Investments, State Intellectual Property Office, Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and Development and Istrian Chamber of Trades and Crafts.

The panel „Challenges of sustainable tourism in Croatia“ was organized the next day at the Faculty of Economics and Tourism (Juraj Dobrila University of Pula). The event gathered experts from public and private sector who gave, from their point of view, the opinion regarding the theme. The panellist were: Kristina Fedel Timovski (City of Pula), Nada Prodan Mraković (Istrian County – Department for tourism), Tullio Fernetich (Hotel San Rocco), Tatjana Braškić (Jadranka d.d. Mali Lošinj), Maria Gracia Baćac (M – G Express and UHPA). The discussion was about the importance of EU funds for revival of Istrian rural areas as the basis for sustainable tourism development. The panellist highlighted that the synergy of public, private, civil and R&D segment is crucial for successful development of sustainable tourism. They concluded that there is need to create a sustainable tourist product that will enrich the tourist experience of Istria. Ticiana Trošt (Croatian Chamber of Economy – County Chamber Pula), Nives Tomišić (BPW), Marinela Kolić (Touristic Board Pula) and Aleksadar Puh (M – G Express) also took part in the debate. The panel moderator was assistant professor Kristina Afrić Rakitovac.

At the same time in IDA, Mr. Zrinski Pelajić, reputable international consultant, held an one-day workshop on „Innovation, entrepreneurship and financing innovative start ups“.

On Thursday, students from Faculty of Economics and Tourism visited the Center for popularization of science and innovation of Istrian County. There professors Mario Turić and Igor Macuka showed to students experiments and their practical use. Visit was organized by IDA and Juraj Dobrila University of Pula. The European SME Week in Pula ended in the spirit of new knowledge that can make a good base for entrepreneurship.
