SMART INNO-SME WEEK: PROMOTING ENTREPRENEURIAL CULTURE IN ISTRIA

PROMOTING ENTREPRENEURIAL CULTURE IN ISTRIA: UNIVERSITY OF PULA AND ISTRIAN DEVELOPMENT AGENCY ANNOUNCED SME WEEK

Juraj Dobrila University of Pula (FB13) and Istrian Development Agency (FB14) organized joint press conference in order to announce „European SME Week“ events to be held in Pula, Istria, from 17th to 19th November

Prof.dr.sc. Danijela Križman Pavlović, Faculty Dean presented EU SME WEEK campaign. The European SME Week is a pan-European campaign that aims to promote entrepreneurship in Europe. It helps existing entrepreneurs find information on available support and tries to encourage more people to set up their own businesses. Coordinated by the European Commission, this campaign consists of events throughout the whole year. The main event of the European SME Week is organised every autumn together with the SME Assembly and the European Enterprise Promotion Awards Ceremony.

Dr.sc. Boris Sabatti, Director of Istrian Development Agency presented the succesful start of Center for the Advancement of Science and Innovation in the Region of Istria.thanks to SMART INNO project, in collaboration with Association for technical culture of Pula.

The Center consists of a few units on physics, mechanics, thermodynamics, electromagnetism, atomic physics fundamentals, "play and have fun", knowledge and experience. It is located in the neighbourhood of the Universitarian Library of Pula, the Archaeological Museum of Istria, the Historical and Maritime Museum of Istria, and the Technical School in Pula, which enables a better cooperation of all these institutions with the Center. Its aim is to demystify the "difficulty" in approaching Science and Innovation, emphasizing their beauty and making them available to the wide public.

Starting from September 2015, Center is educating primary and secundary school pupils in the area of physics. So far, 12 Istrian schools have visited Center, and future plans are to continue the visits two times a week.

With this succesful start and achieved satisfaction both coming from pupils and professors, the first phase of R&D infrastructure development is done.

In the second phase, it is planned to apply for new EU funds in order to equip nearly 600 HA of Center outdoor. Future intentions are oriented towards creating such interactive – amusement park based on scientific facts, where pre-school population and young pupils would be led into the world of science.

Alek Dragojević (SMART INNO, Istrian Development Agency – IDA d.o.o.) announced the three—day event to be held during the EU SME WEEK, organized by IDA d.o.o.

On the 17th Novemeber, presenatation „Encouraging SME development and innovation in production process“ will be organized. Presenters are HAMAG BICRO, State intellectual property office, Croatian bank for reconstruction and development and Croatian chamber of trade and crafts – Pula.

Workshop „Innovation, entrepreneurship and financing innovative start-ups“ will be held on 18th November. Presenter is Mr Zrinski Pelajić. Third day will be organized in collaboration with Juraj Dobrila University of Pula, when students will visit Center for the Advancement of Science and Innovation in the Region of Istria.

Kristina Hlavati (SMART INNO, Juraj Dobrila University of Pula) presented the central theme of „EU SME WEEK“ , which is „smart and innovative region / sustainable region“, with special reference to „sustainable tourism“.  Therefor, University is organizing panel discussion „Challenges of sustainable tourism development in Croatia“ on the 18th September. Panel participants are experts in the field of sustainable tourism, entrepreneurs and representatives of local and regional authority: Nada Mraković Prodan (Administrative Department for Tourism of Istria County), Kristina Fedel Timovski (Department for international collaboration and EU projects, City of Pula), Tullio Fernetich (San Rocco, Brtonigla), Maria Gracia Baćac (UHPA, M-G Express) i Tatjana Braškić (Jadranka d.d. Mali Lošinj). Moderator is doc.dr.sc. Kristina Afrić Rakitovac.
